Mississippian Cultures
Around A.D. 1000, groups of farmers east of the Mississippi were
building large platform mounds in central plazas, performing ceremonies and
often living in stockaded towns, the most populous and complex north of Central
Mexico. Included are sites and artifacts of Cahokia and Dickson Mounds, Aztalan,
the Angel site, Moundville, and Etowah.
