This view looking north shows the restored lower story of the two-story scaenae frons.  This elaborate Corinthian facade was the backdrop for performances.  Roman stage direction always called for three doors, as well as entrances from the orchestra and stage sides.  In this reconstruction, a portion of the outer wall, with its rusticated masonry style, can be seen behind the scaenae frons.  The original wooden stage has here been replaced with concrete.  There are 14 rows of seats in the lower caveum, separated into four cunei by stairs.  The upper caveum contains 15 rows separated into eight cunei.  Each seat and row is numbered; it has been estimated that 3,000 people could have been accommodated.
