Delphi
For peoples of the classical period, Delphi was the geographical and religious center of
the world. The Sanctuary of Apollo, on the slopes of Mt. Parnassos, was the confluence of
the many city-states which dedicated treasuries and monuments to the god. Included are the
ruins of Apollo's sanctuary, the stadium for the Pythian games, and other temples. By
Karelisa V. Hartigan.
