Aleuts and Russians

     Elaborate carved ivory snuff box. Many Aleuts were relocated to the Pribilof Islands in the 1800's to assist the Russian fur trade industry in procuring fur seal skins. This box is made from walrus tusk, the Walrus a common inhabitant of the Pribilofs before extensive hunting.-William S. Laughlin and Sara B. Laughlin
